O’s Notes: Mike Jones is one heck of a pianist and he’s a great friend too. He fronts for a magic show that stars his friend and armature bassist Penn Jillete. That takes a great deal of resolve no doubt but when he sits in a trio with bassist Mike Gurtola and drummer Jeff Hamilton, it is easy to forget those friendship sessions. Mike and Jeff are world-class musicians. The trio really swings as Mike dazzles us with his dexterity. The program includes freshly arranged classics along with a couple of originals in what is a very entertaining session.
