O’s Notes: Da Fonseca is well known in Brazilian circles as a jazz drummer. He is a prominent member of Trio Da Paz. He brings us his quintet and a few guests including his wife Maucha Adnet (vocals) and Paulo Levi (ts) who surfaces on “Viver De Amor”. Duduka is a student of jazz and his learnings benefit the listener. His work on Black & White results in a successful fusion of Samba and jazz. Among the best tunes are “Sambetinho” and “Mestre Bimba” both having a spirited groove that will appeal to broad audiences while containing a lot of depth. The mellow side includes “Bye Bye Brasil” featuring Claudio Roditi on trumpet. There is a lot to like on this set!
