O’s Notes: Matthew Montfort is a world-renowned guitarist, educator and composer. On this release he expands his pallet with the sounds of Spain and India using the scalloped fret board guitar. The modified instrument brings the sound closer to that of a sitar with unique bent tones. The melodies are fleet and full of emotion. The Seven Serenades are a solo effort except for “Sangria”, collaboration with Maria Parker (santur). This synthesis of styles and sound is a notable effort and worth checking out.
