O’s Notes: Snappy Too is a sequel to Scrappy Doo, a quartet that mimicked the sound of a big band through the magic of overdubbing. The original band included the late Ray Brown and Herb Ellis along with Jeff Hamilton and leader James Morrison. This time around it is just James and Jeff. They play show tunes, bebop, blues and bounce with an energy that has lots of zip. The effect is as if each instrument of the 17-piece band were individually miked. In this case 1 + 1 = 17! It is quite an effort and quite enjoyable.
