O’s Notes: Bill has developed a reputation for reconstructing classic tunes and extending their life. These are songs written by Leonard Bernstein from West Side Story, Wonderful Town, Fancy Free, Candide and On the Town. Bill (p) is joined by bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington (no relation). They burn on the up beat tunes like “Jump” and romance us with lovely ballads like “Lonely Town”. The twelve selections are recognizable but refreshed with Charlap’s youth potion. It’s a success.
