O’s Notes: This is Newman’s fifth CD on High Note and it’s another success! The band is a quintet featuring John Hicks (p), Curtis Fuller (tb), John Menegon (b) and Jimmy Cobb (d) with David handling melodies on sax. At 70 years old Newman has lost nothing and in fact seems to ripen with age. His sound is robust and mellow coming through strongly on classics like “Time After Time”, one of nine classics on this set. Sit back, relax and enjoy one of the masters.
