O’s Notes: Drummer Peppe Merolla teams up with an all-star team of musicians for Stick With Me, a collection of nine fresh new tunes. Steve Turre (tb, shells), Mike LeDonne (p), Jim Rotondi (t), Lee Smith (b) and coproducer John Farnsworth (sax) each make a strong contribution to the balanced sound. It is large with precise, rich brass harmonies. They open with “Naples” and continue through “One For Bud” keeping us engaged all the way. The tempo is upbeat and energetic with Merolla driving the pace. Among the best were the lone ballad “Crazy” and “We Cry For Understanding” in a strong set!
