O’s Notes: There are three suites of music here that bubble with intensity. They start swinging and stretch into free space with the title track. Joe created this music with Tim Hagen (t) and Gunther Schuller. The band members are the players from his nonet with Lewis Nash (d) and Dennis Irwin (b). The inspiration came from a long list of jazzmen who have influenced him including Miles, Gil Evans, Don Cherry, Sonny Rollins, Coltrane and Eric Dolphy. We found the collective work to be excellent and easy to listen to repeatedly.
