O’s Notes: The Big Four is Phil Flanigan (b), David Jones (cornet), Bob Leary (g) and leader Allan Vaché (clarinet). They are inspired by the great swing bands of Sidney Bechet and Muggsy Spanier. Strike Two! is the follow-up the well-received Big Four Revisited! This one is at least as good. They play a wider variety of music including tunes by Fats Domino, Rudy Vallee and Bojangles. It’s all hot music played flawlessly, especially our favorite, “Dinah”. If you dig the 1940’s jazz, this is your ticket.
