O’s Notes: Welcome to the world of calypso featuring Phil Hawkins on steel pans. We liked “Encendido” featuring Randy Brecker on trumpet. There are a wealth of good musicians including Ray Obiedo (g), Paul van Wageningen (d) and Mark van Wageningen (b). “Sapatos do Meu Pao” with Jessica Vautor and “Suk-Kyo’s Samba” featuring Michelle Hawkins are two of the vocal tracks. Phil also does a fine job on classics like “Seven Steps To Heaven” and “A New Old Soul”. This is a great taste of the music of Cuba, Trinidad and Brazil.
