O’s Notes: Gust defines swing as the perfect confluence of rhythmic tension and relaxation that creates effortless motion and buoyant excitement. We believe he achieves that on Swing Theory. With guest artists like Wycliffe Gordon (tb, vocals) on “Ow”, they take us to a cool space in jazz that is truly enjoyable. The vocal tracks have a ton of character as Everette Greene blesses “Looking For Someplace To Be” and “The Nature of Love” with his raspy baritone. But Spenos leads this show wailing on his tenor sax with a passion that will bring a smile to your face time and time again.
