O’s Notes: The title says it all on this set. The opener, “Serenade In Blue” sets the tone for the entire session. There’s a full brass section (led by producer and sax man Cecil Hill) that provides a full, warm and rich sound. These tunes have the spirit of the Bobby Darin era, upbeat with happy spirit. Basie’s “One O’Clock Jump” make you want to dance and twirl while the Latin tones of “Sabor a Mi” are perfect for slowing down the pace. The humorous vocals on “Flat Foot Flugie” and bluesy feel of “Night Train” add balance and make this an entertaining CD.
