O’s Notes: Taurey is a jazz pianist with an atypical background. He is an Ivy League engineering graduate who also speaks fluent Japanese. Despite his professional talents, he elected to pursue a career in jazz following his passion. He played with the late Eldee Young in South East Asia before returning to the New York jazz scene. Butler has solid chops and is beginning to make his mark with his own trio featuring bassist Eric Lag ace and Wali Muhammad on drums. The self-titled CD is a good blend of originals and swinging upbeat standards. Butler is one to watch on the jazz scene.
