O’s Notes: Virginia Mayhew leads the Duke Legacy Band on sax. She also does the arrangements. The band includes vocalist Nancy Reed who quickly makes a statement on the opener “Perdido”. Joe Temperley (sax), Wycliffe Gordon (tb) are special guests who make special contributions. This entire band is cool: drummer Paul Wells, Norman Simmons (p), Mark McGowan (t) Tom DiCarlo (b) and Edward Ellington II (g). The program is all classics including “Caravan”, “Cottontail” and “Come Sunday”. They also play Mayhew’s “Toe Tickler”. They keep Duke’s music flowing!
