O’s Notes: Pianist Junior Mance teams up with an orchestra for The Soul of Hollywood (1962) and as a trio in That Lovin’ Feelin’ (1972). His performance is excellent on both sessions. The orchestra steps out at the right times to accentuate points on eleven movie scores. The nine songs with the small ensemble are warmer upbeat blues numbers. These albums have contrasting forms yet similar feel from Mance: excellent style that is very enjoyable.
