O’s Notes: These Alternate Dimensions show yet another side of the living legend, drummer Chico Hamilton. It’s more of a contemporary Latin jazz. He opens with “Simple Timeless” with vocals courtesy of Navasha Daya. They settle into a cool bossa groove on “Je Ka Jo” with Cary DeNigris (g), Paul Ramsey (b), Evan Schwan (ts) and Karolina Strassmayer (ss). There are two versions of “Mysterious Maiden”, both highlighted by Matt Smith’s work on guitar. Charles Lloyd (fl) is featured on “El Toro” and DeNigris weighs in strong again on “Elevation”. Chico holds it all together finishing with the fierce club beats of “I’m Still Thirsty”. There’s nothing to skip on this CD!
