O’s Notes: The Flying Horse Big Band led by tenor saxophonist Jeff Rupert takes on music from Batman with the theme form Spider-Man added for good measure. It is as grandiose as the legendary super hero was in action. The mood is jovial as the good guys win the battles. Brass solos are scattered throughout the performance against a clean foundation that facilitates endless listening. The package has broad appeal beyond bat-fans to lovers of vibrant large ensembles.
