O’s Notes: Many have tried but few have succeeded in equaling the grace and dexterity of the legendary jazz guitarist, Wes Montgomery. He is the pioneer of the octaves technique, along with chord melodies in a way that was unique. He exploded onto the scene in the 1950s and this collection includes the best of his work on the Riverside label between 1959 and 1964. The supporting cast includes Milt Jackson (vibes), Wynton Kelly (p), Sam Jones (b), Philly Joe Jones (d), Johnny Griffin (sax) and his brothers Monk (b) and Buddy (p). This is an excellent snapshot of Wes in his prime, a true inspiration.
