O’s Notes: Rufus anchors the rhythms with firm bass lines providing a solid foundation to build upon. His work here was extracted from the BMI big band workshop. The title track is the centerpiece of the album and the theme of the set revolves around it. These are complex rhythms accentuated by sharp melodies from the brass section, especially newcomer Freddie Hendrix on trumpet. The rest of the band consists of polished young musicians, all with good chops and enough energy to deliver on a top-notch session.
