O’s Notes: Asnagtch sings and plays the krar, a traditional Ethiopian lyre similar to a harp. She also was one of Ethiopia’s most famous actresses. She was a prominent public speaker and weaves this skill into her singing and story telling while accompanying herself on the krar. She typically performed to smaller audiences and the songs were engaging for the listeners. These songs were originally recorded in 1974-1976. Ethiopiques 16 is a fine addition to the series.
