O’s Notes: You’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t appreciate the music of Jobim. And seemingly thousands have taken a stab at his legendary recordings. Add trombonist and bandleader Wilson to this list. They open with his arrangement of “Desafinado” and we are immediately engaged in what they have to say. The band, Phil’s Latin American All-Stars, lives up to their billing. Wilson handles the melodies on his trombone with warm clear notes, sometimes pairing up with Matt Marvuglio (bass flute) or Dario Eskenzai (p) as on “Triste”. This is a strong session!
