O’s Notes: The Passion of Color is popping from the opener, “The Still Standing Blues”, a syncopated number featuring pianist Dan Tepper. The interaction between bassist Joe Marin and Rob Garcia (d) is excellent. Noah Preminger adds warm, spirited tenor sax. Leader and composer Garcia wisely shares the spotlight with his compatriots. That formula works very well. The music is Modern Jazz with lots of passion especially on “It’s Time”, “Purple Brush” and the title track. Play the CD more than once and you’ll find different things to embrace each time.
