O’s Notes: Israeli guitarist Yotam Silberstein leads a quartet with pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers and Greg Hutchinson keeping time. This is a formidable crew that comes through in their performance including 8 (of 11) original compositions from Silberstein morphing bop and blues into modern jazz. The Village refers to Silverstein’s home in Greenwich Village, New York and also the shrinking world, the global village courtesy of technology. The latter allows for rapid communications and sharing of ideas not only in technology but also in arts. The energy is high for much of the album yet they find time to reflect on ballads like “Nocturno” and “Fuzz” making this a solid, balanced endeavor.
