O’s Notes: Drummer Ernesto Cervini leads a quartet with Adrean Farrugia (p), Dan Loomis (b) and Joel Fraham (sax). All of the compositions were written and produced by Cervini except “Alert” by Frahm and “Woebegone” by Farrugia. The lone cover is a fine arrangement of “Secret Love”. The set was recorded live at Vancouver’s best jazz spot, Cory Weed’s Jazz Cellar November 2010. The live ambiance encouraged the band and spurned creativity that we could feel especially on the syncopated “TGV”. There is swinging with Cervini creating the backbeats and Fraham driving the melodies.
