O’s Notes: Bob Lark (t, flugelhorn), Director of the DePaul Jazz Ensemble and Phil Woods (sax) have performed and recorded together on numerous occasions.“Thick A Thieves“is their latest encounter in a quintet with Jim McNeely (p), Steve Gilmore (b) and Bill Godwin (d). It’s a live recording at Chicago’s Jazz Showcase. They play seven lengthy swinging compositions including “First Steps”, a Lark original. As always when these two headliners get together, good music emanates! This is no exception and another winner.
