O’s Notes: Drummer Gerry Gibbs leads the Thrasher Dream Trio with bassist Ron Carter and pianist Kenny Barron. They are more than a dream team and leave nothing behind for this live studio set, their third recording. This session is different, an impromptu set with no rehearsals performed in from of a studio audience of musicians and music professionals. They jazzify sixteen pop classics and include guest artists Roy Hargrove (t, flugelhorn) and Cassandra Wilson (vocals) on six selections making it a quartet and even a quintet on “Alfie”. The spontaneity leads to energetic, passionate playing and a great set that makes pop music we all know into jazz music that we love.
