O’s Notes: This is a high-energy set that is executed with a lot of poise and control. The songs, mostly classics feature Joe Magnarelli (t) and Myron Walden (sax) leading the melodies. The rhythm section is tight and Ray’s accents on timbales, congas and drums give the session an abundance of character. Bobby Samabria adds more percussion on selected cuts for a little extra! The sullen spirit on “Motherless Child” and the cha cha beats of “One For Ray” are defining points from a well-heeled team. These tunes invite you into the mix. We were compelled to tap our feet and feel it!
