O’s Notes: Trane of Thought is a tribute to the legendary John Coltrane by two Toronto-based tenor saxophonists, Pat LaBarbera and Kirk MacDonald. They initiated this idea back in 1992 and it has since become an annual event at the Rex Hotel on or around Coltrane’s birthday! This recording captures the celebration during September 2018. Brian Dickinson (p), Neil Swanson (b) and Joe LaBarbera (d) anchor the quintet. The intensity builds over the set with “26-2”, “Naima” and “Impressions” building momentum for the closer “Acknowledgement/Resolution”.
