O’s Notes: Bassist Marcus Shelby is an avid sports fan, specifically baseball, and he’s made several recordings inspired by African American culture (Harriet Tubman, and MLK on“Soul of the Movement). For“Traditions, Marcus is inspired by baseball’s Negro Leagues. Shelby’s Orchestra has been together for over two decades and plays with seamless passion and precision embracing his theme with energy and passion. We enjoyed ‘Begin The Beguine‘ and ‘Mood Indigo‘ featuring vocalist Tiffany Austin, two of her five welcomed appearances here. ‘On a Turquoise Cloud‘ featuring violinist Mads Tolling is also notable.
