O’s Notes: We liked pianist Leslie Pintchik’s last recording, In The Nature of Things (4/4). She has that same muted mellow sound on her latest release True North. Her sextet is also the same with Steve Wilson (sax), Ron Horton (t), Michael Sarin (d), Satoshi Takeishi (perc) and Scott Hardy (b) providing excellent support and variety. The program has six Pintchik originals and four freshly arranged standards notably “let’s Get Lucky” and the title track. Leslie is originally from Brooklyn and can be heard today in several jazz clubs in New York. The music serves as rich landscape for background music and is also robust enough for deep listening. This is another solid effort.
