O’s Notes: This nonet is swinging hard from the opener, “Go”, paced by the walking bass of Mary Ann McSweeney. The rest of the band is also strong including excellent work from guitarist, Pete McCann, Tim Horner (d), Joel Frahm (ts), Pete McGuinness (tb) and leader Jim Cifelli on trumpet and flugelhorn. The layering harmonies from the brass section are impeccable. The pace varies from burners to ballads and is tight as well as being detailed enough to convey emotions.
