O’s Notes: Jazz pianist, composer and band leader Mehmet Ali Sanlikol is bringing the world together through his music. Turkish Hipster is performed by a large ensemble incorporating jazz, Turkish folk, samba, hip hop, and rock. It is accessible and enjoyable to a wide audience. Anat Cohen (cl) shines on “A Capoeira Turca”. They take an urban twist on “The Boston Beat” featuring rapper Raydar Ellis with spoken word followed by the funky, fusion on “Estarabim”. We enjoyed the “Abraham Suite” featuring Antonio Sanchez, notably the sweet brass and percussion on “The Sacrifice”, and the heartfelt ballad, “The Call – A Touch of Eternity”.
