O’s Notes: Andy Narell is a master of the steel drums. He teams up with one of Trinidad’s finest calypsonians, Relator (Willard Harris) to bring us a taste of the West Indies with University of Calypso. They play fifteen songs, mostly Relator’s hits and calypso jazz classics by the legendary Lord Kitchener. Paquito Rivera (cl, sax) adds even more heat on “Pan In Harmony” and “Hold Onto Your Man”. The beauty of calypso lies in the stories of the lyrics combined with the festive beats of the steel pans. “Eating Competition”, “My Pussin” and “Food Prices” are some of the best! Andy and Relator hit the bull’s eye with this recording, an excellent foray to calypso.
