O’s Notes: Portinho forms a trio with Klaus Mueller (p) and Itiguara Brandão (b). Jay Ashby is the guest artist on trombone and percussion. Together they bring pleasure to listeners with a combination of Brazilian and modern jazz. Brazilian drummer Portinho has a rare sense of rhythm and pace that allows him to make the music flow from the drummer’s seat. He places punctuation in all of the right spots. It just feels good! Highlights are their arrangement of “Satin Doll”, “Aquarela do Brazil” and “Vai De Vez”.
