O’s Notes: Wake Up! is the first album in collaboration between Eric Schugren (tenor sax) and drummer Vin Scialla. They produced the session and wrote seven of the nine selections. Brian Charette (B3) and Mike DiRubbo (alto sax) form the rest of the quartet. The music is fresh modern jazz and blues highlighted by “New Beginnings”, “Blues Away the Blows” and “Mean Irene”. The groove is tight and worthy of an encore.
