O’s Notes: Harold Land was a hard bop saxophonist who could go toe to toe with the best musicians of the early 1960s. Harold made his way to the left coast for Westward Bound! a swinging session with solos coming across the band. Buddy Montgomery (p), Monk Montgomery (b), Hampton Hawes (p) and Philly Joe Jones (d) were all a part of this previously unreleased material. We loved the live take of “Vendetta” featuring the late Carmell Jones on trumpet, just one of nine gems.
