O’s Notes: These are some of the magical moments from the early 1950’s featuring Sonny Rollins playing with The Modern Jazz Quartet. These are Sonny’s first recordings as a leader. He displays a mastery of his sax blazing through well-articulated solos and breathing warm seductive notes for the ballads. He’s in good company including Milt Jackson (vibes), Kenny Drew (p), Percy Heath (b) and Art Blakey (d). The finale even includes Miles Davis on piano.
