O’s Notes: This is a workin’ trio featuring Cecil Brooks III (d), Kyle Koehler (B3) with Don on sax. It was recorded live at Cecil’s club in West Orange, New Jersey. They play a number of jazzed up classic R&B songs, notably “You Can’t Hide Love” where Don is almost breathless with passion and “Feel Like Makin’ Love”. Both are arrangements that expand their audience. They also play a number of more traditional tunes from Braden’s recent studio recording, The New Hang that was a dedication to this same club. We’ve been there and it is truly a cool jazz spot, a great place to engage in the music. This CD is ample proof that jazz is vibrant today.
