O’s Notes: Mandolinist and composer Hamilton de Holanda celebrates his admiration and respect for the beautiful music of Pixinguinha on theirs CD. He partners with an all-star selection of musicians to capture this mix of Choro and Jazz. Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes opens the session sharing two selections with De Holanda followed by Richard Galliano on accordion for the next two. Stefano Bollani (p), Omar Sosa (p), André Mehmari (p) and Wynton Marsalis (t) each perform duet while Odette Ernest Dias (fl) and Carlos Malta (sax) for the lone trio for “Carinoso”. That is a wealth of talent all centered on a central focus and it serves as a great view into the World of Pixinguinha.
