O’s Notes: They open with the spicy percussive beats of Ivan Soto (congas) and Gilberto Moreaux (d) layered with bassist Allan Johnston and André Carrasquero (p) filling in syncopated rhythms. Miguel Angel Valdés (t) joins last with sharp accents leading the melody. We were 4 minutes in and already intoxicated with the groove! They vary the pace but we preferred the energy of the upbeat tracks. And there is a lot to enjoy here. This is a live session recorded summer 2006 at the Cellar in Vancouver. We’ve got to get to that place.
