O’s Notes: This is a jazzy side of Ray Charles with a large ensemble. It is a live recording in Zurich during 1961. Marcus Belgrave (t), bandleader Hank Crawford (as) and David Newman (ts) are among the many talented musicians playing across 17 classic tunes. The Raelettes make their presence known on “My Baby” and “I Believe to My Soul”, both soulful numbers. Quincy Jones arranged six selections as well. There are several excellent instrumentals from what was Quincy’s orchestra. This is yet another dimension for the multi-talented Ray Charles.
