O’s Notes: 3ology is actually a trio with Doug Carmichael (sax), Tim Carmichael (b) and Jon Powers (d). They invited Ron Miles (cornet) to join the mix and he fits right into their improvisational style as if he were an original member. They take us through nine new songs, all composed by band members. The feel is modern jazz with a high degree of free form. Free jazz frequently is so introspective that the listener can get lost. But when 3ology is in sync, the listeners can feel it as well. “Back In Hotchitackee” is a prime example.
