O’s Notes: Listening to music has changed dramatically over the last few decades. In the past many people cherished the coveted, listening spot in a living room with a hi-fi stereo system trying to approximate a live sound stage. Things involved to digital media, iTunes, iPad, streaming songs, not albums only really listen through EarPods Maybe headphones, but certainly not a stereo hi-fi system. So today the needs of a recording producer are very different whether you’re producing for digital EarPods or an automobile. You may use compressed audio and reduced dynamic range for high background environments, more spatial sound for cinematic experiences, or traditional stereo that approximates a live performance. David Chesky was one of the pioneers in perfecting stereophonic reproduction coming out of two speakers mimicking the depth and width of a live sound stage. Today he focuses his new label on creating the right experience for headphones, digital media and the stereophonic experience. It’s not one size it’s all but let me tell you when you match MEDIA and modes. The experience is incredible. That’s what this recording is all about, demonstrated by a collective of young groove players.
