O’s Notes: This is saxophonist Dave Anderson’s debut recording, a mix of eight originals with two covers. He plays mostly in a quartet with pianist John Hansen, drummer Adam Kessler and Chuck Kistler on bass. “Wabi-Sabi” is a warm swinger featuring guest Thomas Marriott on flugelhorn. That swinging groove continues with Hansen and Anderson driving “Troubled Angel” around Kistler’s walking bass line. Each of these musicians is good and collectively they are very good. Anderson has done an excellent job writing and arranging to optimize his team leaving us anxiously anticipating Act 2.
