O’s Notes: Herzig treats us to a wonderful session on piano leading her band. They perform ten songs, a blend of mostly originals with well-selected classics. We are greeted by the fresh and inviting sounds of Monika’s vibrant “The Pianist Say” complemented by Tom Clark on sax. Carolyn Dutton (violin) does a fine job on “Come With Me” and again on the Latin-spirited “Olé” with Clark on flute and fine percussion work by Joe Galvin. We enjoyed the swinging bluegrass of “Italian Taxi Ride” with solos from Kenny Phelps (d) and Frank Smith (b). Herzig shares the stage with her talented team making this a rich and entertaining set. There is also a DVD that focuses on Monika, the girl in the band, in Germany! They trace her development as a musician from childhood. This DVD is a major step up from liner notes bit the CD remains the focal point of this set.
