O’s Notes: Johnny O’Neal is a world-class pianist and bandleader. He performs in a trio format for this live session with bassist Paul Sikivie and Charles Goold on drums. They convened at Smalls in New York for this session in June 2013. O’Neal adds vocals on a few tunes but the instrumentals are what makes this on pop. Johnny plays a dynamic piano especially on “Good-bye” and “Sudan Blue”, worth the price of the CD alone!
