O’s Notes: Pianist Robert Lepley performs in“16 different configurations with 33 musicians in trios, quartets and quintets. Most of the music is straight ahead with some blues, ballads, Brazilian and funky bop. There are eighteen songs on two discs. Lepley is quite a man, a minister and“a polished musician.“MacDougal St., NYC“reflects the breadth of his experience and passion. It is well-executed for an enjoyable listening experience. On Disc 1 we liked “AT’s Blues” featuring Josh Evans on trumpet, “Ballad For Sarah” with Sarah Turkiew playing baritone sax and the brassy “Catfish Blues” with a funky drum line from Frank Bellucci. The second disc has more classics like “Little Girl Blue” and “Dolphin Dance”. Robert does a good job entertaining us across a large package.
