O’s Notes: Shirley and Marion have a high level of respect for each other, which blossomed into a friendship. And during this session they let that emotion flow into the music. They reminisce about past times, recording sessions and other musicians. We liked “Billy’s Bounce”, Parker’s blues tune which left them filled with laughter. Shirley also sings a few tunes, notably “Violets For Your Furs” and “There’s No You”. They do a number of duets where they let the mood take them away. This session was recorded in 1984, a few years before Horn returned to the jazz scene full time. It was released after her death in October 2006 and there are plentiful memories here, all very beautiful.
