O’s Notes: Drummer Matt Wilson teams up with Paul Sikivie (b) and Jeff Lederer (sax, cl, toy piano) to put their jazz stamp on the traditional holiday tunes. Lederer puts the punch in “The Chipmonk Song” with far more improvisation that we’ve ever heard from Theodore! That is a strong hint of what follows as the trio pushes the envelope taking these classics into an improv zone of their own. It is not so far gone that you don’t recognize the tunes – a good thing! Matt Wilson’s Christmas Tree-O is a unique disc to mix into the rotation in December to keep the jazz heads bouncing!
