O’s Notes: Composer and alto saxophonist Ken Thomson leads a Sextet with Alan Ferber (tb), Russ Johnson (t), Anna Webber (tenor sax), Adam Armstrong (b) and Daniel Dor (d). This is a lively sextet with a brassy concentration and music that builds in complexity as the session progresses. Our favorites are “Phantom Vibration Syndrome”, “Icebreaker” and the relaxing “Helpless”. We were also impressed by the extra large CD package that is ~50% larger than the standard CD jewel case. It’s easy to read and easy to find but hard to store in standard CD cabinets.
